We are thrilled to share the incredible success of the 2024 KGW Great Food Drive, a community effort that raised funds and donations to support local families facing food insecurity. Rivermark, alongside other generous sponsors Toyota, Safeway, and Pacific Office Automation, helped surpass our ambitious goal of providing 1.2 million meals, with the final tally reaching over 2.5 million meals—more than double the original target!
For the past eight years, Rivermark has been a proud sponsor of the KGW Great Food Drive, and we are grateful for the outpouring of support from our members, staff, and community. Together, we have helped tackle the ongoing hunger crisis affecting Oregon and Southwest Washington, where more than 1 in 10 people regularly face hunger, and 1 in 8 children rely on free or reduced lunch at school.
Increased Need, Stronger Community Response
The need for food assistance has never been more critical. Rising costs in food sourcing and distribution have compounded the challenges of fighting hunger, with food prices increasing by 10% to 30% over the past year alone. Despite these challenges, the Oregon Food Bank Network and its partners, including Rivermark, have continued to provide crucial support to families in need.
This year, Rivermark branches collected over 1,100 pounds of food donations, working in collaboration with local food pantries to directly impact communities. Staff also volunteered their time at various events, packing food and raising awareness about food insecurity. Every donation, whether it was a cash contribution or non-perishable items dropped off at our branches, made a significant difference in supporting our neighbors.
Generous Donations and Volunteerism
Rivermark’s commitment to fighting hunger extended beyond the food drive. In addition to the community donations raised during the campaign, Rivermark made a $250,000 contribution to the Oregon Food Bank, thanks to grants received from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. This donation will provide over 760,000 meals to help those in need throughout the year.
Our collective efforts have had a profound impact on the lives of many Oregonians and Southwest Washingtonians, but the fight against hunger doesn’t stop here.
